The Rainbow Bridge Annabelle Porner Class 3: Studio Workshop Sophomore, Class of 2021 For my art show I decided to do a story board about a traditional Chumash story about how dolphins were created. The story goes the goddess, Hutash, created a bridge for people to cross to the mainland. However, the children crossing the bridge were playing and they got delirious and started to fall off the bridge. Hutash didn't want to see them die, so she turned them into dolphins so they could continue to play forever. I have always had a love and fascination with dolphins, so when I came up with the idea to do a storyboard, I knew I wanted it to be some kind of legend about dolphins. Then I remembered a story from the movie Dolphin Tale about a goddess turning children into dolphins. I started doing research and found this was a real story from a real group of people. I knew I wanted to use it because I have such a love for the movie and the animal. What I did to create my story board was make 6x6 slabs (each with the same amount of thickness), draw what I wanted to be on the slab, wait for it to get leather-hard, then carve the design using trimming tools. For the glaze, I decided to use the colors of the rainbow in order (ROY G BV) since the story is called The Rainbow Bridge. I am very happy with the way it turned out and I hope you enjoy learning this tale through art.
